Players from Africa at the PDC World Championship

Wether the wasp are still around at the Ally Pally I have no idea as I am for a long time already back home. And so I choose for this article a completely different topic -
it is about all the players from Africa who so far qualified for the PDC World Championship.

PDC World Championship - Five Minutes Analysis Day 19

Today only an evening session will be played in which both semi-finals will take place.
Today's Day's Specials: Ryan Searle is the player in the semi-finals who is the lowest ranked in the PDC World Ranking - he sits in place 20. And he is the
only one of the players in the semi-finals who so far didn't win a PDC TV Major.
What you should know as well: Neither Gian van Veen nor Ryan Searle stood so far in the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship. For van Veen it is the third World Championship and his best result so far was the second round. For Searle
it is already the eighth World Championship and his best result so far were the Last 16 in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

PDC World Championship - Quarterfinals

All four quarterfinals were surprisingly one-sided matches with in most cases not really to be expected results. The biggests upset was probably the 1:5 defeat of
Luke Humphries by Gian van Veen - Humphries scored quite well, but not as good as van Veen and made too many mistakes on his doubles. Beside he didn't manage to take the few chances
which were offered to him. Jonny Clayton's clear 2:5 loss to Ryan Searle was unexpected as well - and here as well Clayton's double problems were a deciding factor.
Gary Anderson on the other side was after four well balanced sets just too much for the in this match overcharged Justin Hood
and Krzysztof Ratajski didn't find a way to put at least some pressure on Luke Littler.

What you should know as well: Krzysztof Ratajski qualified by the PDC World Ranking but not as a seeded player as he was outside the Top 32. Ratajskis very first World Championship was the BDO World Championship 2009.
One year later followed his first appearence in a PDC TV Tournament - he was together with Krzysztof Kciuk the Team Poland in the PDC World Cup. But Ratajski stayed in the BDO till 2017. In that year he first won the World Masters, then qualified for a second BDO World Championship and after that changed to the PDC.
This is his ninth PDC World Championship and he reached the quarterfinals after 2021 for the second time.

PDC World Championship - Day 17

Today the fourth round was played to the end - tomorrow is another break before the tournament will continue on 1. January with the quarterfinals. As had to be expected we did see an upset today again - Justin Hood gave
Josh Rock no chance at all and defeated him 4:0. There were no close matches today anyway - even the match between Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson ended - slightly surprising - with a clear 4:1 win from Gary Anderson.
With the same result Gian van Veen defeated Charlie Manby and Luke Humphries Kevin Doets. Krzysztof Ratajski prevailed 4:2 over Luke Woodhouse and Jonny Clayton won as well 4:2 against Andreas Harrysson.

special.
What you should know as well: Kevin Doets qualified as he did last year by the Pro Tour Order of Merit for the World Championships and as last year reached the fourth round. Last year he lost to Chris Dobey.
This year he'll meet Luke Humphries. Doets played as did Niels Zonneveld as youth WDF tournaments and was together with Zonneveld part of the winning boys team in the WDF Europe Cup Youth 2014. He already was part of the winning team in 2013 when Zonneveld was not.

and together with Thomas Banks the boys pairs event and the youth event of the
British Internationals.
What you should know as well: The second debutant of the day, Justin Hood, is to be sure one of the surprise winners of this PDC World Championship. After several failed attempts he won 2025 a Tour Card,
had some good results on the Pro Tour and qualified by the Pro Tour Order of Merit for the PDC World Championship. In fact it is not his first World Championship - Hood qualified 2020 for the BDO World Championship
and lost first round to Richard Veenstra.
Not much is known about Hood - only that he loves it to stand on stage and very much likes Chinese food of which - as he tells himself - he eats far too much.

clinical on his doubles as his opponent. But we did see a surprise in the afternoon as well - Joe Cullen had big problems with Mensur Suljovic' style of playing which was even more questionable then usually and lost 1:3. The other winners of the afternoon were Krzysztof Ratajski,

The other match was a rather arduous affair - Ian White won in the end 3:2 against Mervyn King. In the evening the
atmosphere in the venue was even better from the start and Ross Smith and Andreas Harrysson delighted the crowd with a thrilling match in which Harrysson surprisingly prevailed 3:2.
After that Ricky Evans sparked the crowd with his walk-on even more and deservedly won 3:0 against Man Lok Leung who only played good in the
third set. In the match between Gian van Veen and Cristo Reyes it took some time till Reyes had settled but then he made live difficult for van Veen who only
just stopped Reyes to draw 2:2 and won 3:1. In the last match Damon Heta played against Steve Lennon and won 3:1.

PDC World Championship - Day 1

The biggest uoset of the night already came in the first match of the PDC World Championship - German debutant Arno Merk showed no nerves at all and hit his doubles better
as his on this stage much more experienced opponent Kim Huybrechts and won 3:1. No problems at all had in the second match Michael Smith against
Lisa Ashton who was cheered a lot by the crowd and won 3:0 as did reigning champion Luke Littler against Darius Labanauskas. But the match was not as onesided as the result
- two of the sets went into the deciding leg and in the last set Labanauskas had his chances as well. In the last match Madars Razma made life rather difficult for him against
the dutch debutant Jamai van den Herik who didn't score as well as Razma but Razma had problems to hit his doubles. In the end the rather tense Razma won with 3:1.
